In the mid seventies I purchased a from the well established UK division of Reader's Digest. I was impressed, not only with the quality of the vinyl, but the fact that, unlike many of their contemporary compilation competitors, they actually used the original recordings. The album sleeves were interesting, and the information concerning each of the tracks on the set was amazingly detailed. It began a lifelong affair with music in general, and I became an avid collector of other RD sets.
In 1993, I was lucky enough to work for Reader's Digest, creating their compilations and seeing my own mark put upon their releases. When I left in 2003, I had no control over the output, even though I held a higher position within the company. Their releases had certainly become less about quality and more about keeping costs down, this resulted in more cover version collections and sets made by other companies. This is why this list only goes up to 2003. Paul Randolph Lonely Eden Rarest. The forty years that will be covered by this blog, hopefully lists every music collection released by the company in the UK during the period. I welcome details on any that I may have missed. The list includes all main releases.
Bonus albums, demos and other items will be listed seperately.eventually! PLEASE NOTE: This is a work in progress - details and corrections will be made as I notice them.

MANY CDS NOW AVAILABLE TO BUY ON THE SITE. Gary King I'm hoping your UK experience can help with a US question. I am trying to determine what the catalog number of a RD box set would be. There are many numbers in various places, so finding the number that represents the box set is troubling. I have several of the RD box sets, but for example, 'The Best Of The Swing Years' has RDA-113/A in the lower left corner of the box set's front image.
It also has RD4A-113 on each disk with a '-1', '-2', etc. To represent the number of the specific record within the set. Each side also has a specific number, H1RS-1001 for record 1, side 1; H1RS-1002 for record 1 side 2, etc.
In addition, the enclosed program notes booklet has RDA-113-E on it's back. I believe that the catalog number for this set should be the base number on each record: RD4A-113. Your thoughts? Thanks for your time and help. Hi Gary, the bad news is that every edition had it's own numbering system.
Each country that issued music had seperate code numbers for albums, cassettes and CDs. Sometimes these would match each-other, other times not. Because RD released albums initially as a test, and then again for a full blown release, these numbers would sometimes change on identical packages. In addition to the confusion, there would be two sets of numbering systems for internal and external use. In the UK there was the code prefix (normally 3 or for characters) followed by a sequential number. There was also a 'production' number indicated by RDC for cassettes, RDCD for CDs and RDS or RDM for stereo/mono albums.
There is also a ‘matrix’ number for each side of an album (RDES with 4 digits). Finally, many releases were 'adapted' locally, but kept the same international numbers or were allocated entirely different numbers. Unfortunately when I started at RD, there was only rough notes and scraps of paper as records, and I was the first person to organise these into a usable database, and begin a proper sequence to releases - therefore, I guess the system in the states may have been similar. Octane Render X64 ?????? ?. I aim to organise as much as I can on this site for the UK, but unless one of my ex-colleagues in the States has a similar anal obsession, there may never be a definitive list. Anonymous Dear Sir, Last year I acquired a box set you have listed above without details: 'Three Piece Suite – An Easy-Listening Trip' (RD UK 1996).
